WATERVLIET – William L. Avery, 75, passed away on his birthday, Thursday, January 17, 2008 at The Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.
William was born on January 17, 1933 in Syracuse and was the son of the late Harold L. Avery and John and Thelma B. (Norton) Paul. He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. He worked as a truck driver for the Local Union 294 of the Teamsters in Albany for over 20 years; he then worked for the Golub Corporation for 10 years as a dispatcher. He was a coach with the Colonie Little League system, an avid bowler where he was a member of the Capital City Merchants league, a passionate Red Socks fan, he enjoyed wintering in Florida, and he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at St. Patrick's Church in Watervliet and the Colonie Elks Lodge 2192.
William is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rosemary (Fredette) Avery; his children, Michael L. (Bonnie) Avery of Colonie and Evelyn M. (Michael) Hanley of Loudonville; his grandchildren, Jessica R. Avery, John J. Burnett and Caroline A. Hanley; and several Norton cousins.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff at the NYOH on Patroon Creek Blvd. and to the staff at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital for the compassionate care given to William.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.), Colonie, then to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at St. Patrick's Church, 515 19th St. (Rt. 2), Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, 315 So. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 in memory of William L. Avery.
