Cohoes-William Lawrence LaPlante Jr. passed peacefully from life following a short illness in Florida on November 30, 2020 at the age of 94 in the company of his family. Bill was born in Williamstown, MA., Son of William L LaPlante and Corabelle V (Gould) LaPlante.

He lived, schooled, and worked at his grandfather's farm in Williamstown until he enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17.

Bill proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Romulus during WWII as a Motor Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Petty Officer operating in the Pacific Arena. Upon his return he met and married Janet A. Gagnon and settled down in Cohoes, NY where they raised their four children.

He was employed at Dunning Buick in Latham and later at Bumstead Chevrolet in Troy as service manager / new car preparation manager until they closed. Later he found employment working for the Capital District Transportation Authority as a bus driver until his retirement after which he and Janet relocated to Port Orange, Florida.

Bill had 3 great loves in his life: his wife, his family, and his Red Sox.

He married Janet in 1952, and they were inseparable in a loving marriage for 59 years until her death in 2011. He is survived by his children, William L. LaPlante, III (Sandra), Mark J. LaPlante (Diana), Christine M. Gagnon (Douglas), and Michelle A. LaPlante.
His family was most important to Bill, who cherished his children, grandchildren: Deidre Meier (LaPlante) and her husband Jonathan, Erica A. Barker (LaPlante) and her husband Matthew, Keith M. LaPlante and his Fiancée Alaina, Renee C. Springer (Gagnon) and her husband George, Elizabeth M. Hudak (Gagnon) and her husband Bradley, Douglas C. Gagnon and his wife Carys, and predeceased William D. Gagnon, and great grandchildren: Hudson and Declan Meier, Rudy and Remy Barker, Mckenna and Ryan Springer, and Mia and Davis Gagnon.

Finally, The Red Sox! No baseball team could compare to the Red Sox in Bill's eyes. He was perpetually parked in front of the TV in the evenings with Manhattan in hand with the hope that the Red Sox would pull out a win. The end of the baseball season brought the long winter with the hopes that "Next year, the World Series"!

Bill will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him.

A private viewing will be held for family at the New Comer Cremations & Funerals, Watervliet, NY.

Bill will be interred at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. December 16th, 2020 at 12:30 PM.
