ALBANY - William M. Kawalkowski (Kawal), 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on November 11, 1924 in Dickson City, PA and was the son of the late Adam and Theda (Kasperowski) Kawalkowski. He served in the US Marine Corps 3rd Division Pacific Theatre during WWII, attaining the rank of corporal. He worked in the trucking industry for over 40 years before retiring in the mid 1980's.
Bill had a great sense of humor and zest for life. He loved his family and enjoyed golf and stamp collecting. He was a longtime member of the Delta Nu Alpha, a member of the Roessleville Presbyterian Church and their seniors group, a member of the Marine Corps League and was Sergeant at Arms at Atria Shaker.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sara J. (Miller) Kawalkowski; his daughters, Jane Kawalkowski of Niskayuna, Carol A. (Leo) Dacey of Clifton, VA and Donna L. (James) Gillis of Guilderland; his grandchildren, Jason M. (Lisa) Kois, Jamie L. Nestler, Kristin L. Dacey, Kelly M. and Lyndsey M. Gillis; his great-grandchildren, Katlyn and Jakob Nestler and Alyssa and Sydney Kois; his sisters, Lorraine Filipek and Elizabeth Uchic; his brother, Leonard (Anne) Kaine and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be on Thursday (today) from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, Memory's Garden, Colonie.
