William Gregory Mccormick

July 5, 1946 — April 18, 2023

ALBANY-
McCormick, William Gregory "Greg", 76, passed away on April 18, 2023, at the Veterans Medical Center in Albany, NY after a courageous struggle with cancer.
Always known by his middle name, Greg was the son of the late William McCormick and Marjorie (Greier) McCormick.
He is survived by his sister, Suzanne Pinto of Tampa, Florida; niece Kimberly Shurtleff; and nephew Jeffery Shurtleff as well as several cousins.
He was pre-deceased by his dear partner, Gary Towers.
Greg attended Grammar and High School in Albany, then joined the United States Navy in September 1964. After his military service he worked as a waiter at several Capital District restaurants, where he enhanced and refined his culinary skills. He also became a registered nurse and worked until his retirement at the Capital District Psychiatric Center in Albany.
In addition to Greg's enjoyment of fine Indian and Vegetarian food and red wine, his many pleasures include bicycling, vintage movies, television shows, chess, crosswords and travel especially visits to New York City and Province Town with his "Amigo's" David and Kevin. Greg was also a regular trivia player at Rocks Bar, where his team mates could count on him for answers in the Health and Sciences Categories especially.
Always a "people person", Greg was devoted to his friends and he was equally thoughtful and generous to strangers in need.
Greg's family and friends wish to thank the VA staff especially Matt who was so attentive, for all their care and kindness.
As he wishes, Greg's ashes will be scattered at sea to join Gary's. A memorial will be held to celebrate Greg at a future date.
