William R. Mckinley

June 10, 1953 — August 18, 2020

William R. McKinley, 67, of Cohoes, passed away after battling a long illness on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was the husband of Dianna R. McKinley. They shared 27 years together.

Born in Cohoes, NY, Bill was the son of the late Robert and Rose McKinley. He worked as a Corrections Officer for Albany County Jail for 12 years. Bill was also a veteran and served in the US Army in his early life. Throughout his life, he accomplished many things, but the main thing he took pride in was being a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Bill was a man of many trades, including hunting and fishing. Some would refer to Bill as the squirrel master, for his impressive and tactful skills when it came to hunting. It was a passion of his to teach his grandchildren his craft; he shared many hours in the woods teaching his grandsons all they needed to know so that they could teach it to the future generations that will come. When Bill wasn't in the woods, you could always find him with family; devoting time to his beloved wife, making memories and being sure to capture them no matter the occasion. He was also a man of many jokes and took joy in keeping people on their toes and scaring them when they least expected it. Bill was always the person you could count on and was there when you needed him.

Bill will forever be a beloved son, brother, uncle, husband, father and grandfather. In life and now in death, Bill would want us to focus on the happiness in our lives and our futures. Although we will miss him dearly, we take comfort in the memories of his love, pranks and his infectious smile.

Bill is preceded in death by his father Robert McKinley, his mother Rose McKinley, and his brother Raymond McKinley.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dianna R. McKinley; his daughters, Melissa (Cort) Seguin of Schaghticoke, Kary (Brian) Schrom of Hoosick Falls, Christy McKinley of Clifton Park; his step-children, Jody (Kim) Fan of Waterford, Danielle (Thomas) Bedard of Schaghticoke, Kimberly Charbonneau of Cohoes and Jason Charbonneau of Cohoes. His Siblings, Thomas McKinley of Ohio, MaryAnn (Richard) Bullard of Burnt Hills, Catherine (Thomas) Turner of Cohoes, Michael McKinley of Latham, Jacqueline (Vincent) Turo of Amsterdam, Donald (Doris) McKinley of Greenwich, Ann McKinley of Troy, and Cindy (Frank) Steciuk of Glens Falls. Bill is also survived by his twelve grandchildren and four great grand children; and many loving relatives and friends.
