COLONIE - William C. Mitchell, Jr. passed away March 2, 2023 at the age of 94 after a brief illness.
He was born in Albany on July 29, 1928.
Bill was a 71-year member of the West Albany Fire Department also past Chief of the Department as well as many other civil offices. He was Past President of the West Albany Ambulance Squad. He also served as a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners as the secretary-treasurer for 25 years, as well as an Operations Cars 4 & 7 in the Town of Colonie. He was also on the committee to purchase a second Field Communications vehicle for the Town. He worked at State Bank of Albany, which later became Bank of America. He was a member of the bank's Quarter Century Club.
He loved to watch golf on TV as well as the Game Show Network, CSI and Blue Bloods. He loved to take trips to the Casino with his wife. He loved to travel and camp with family and friends at Queens Village Campground in Warrensburg, NY.
He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Rooney of Schenectady, his three children, James (Thomi) Mitchell, Marion (Timothy) McAllister and Debra (Mark) McAllister. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Darius, Joshua, Patrick (Jacqlene), Daniel (Jaime), Christopher (Danielle) and Samantha McAllister, Meghan (Joe) Smith, James "JT" Mitchell and six great-grandchildren, Patrick Jr.,Peyton and Bennett McAllister, Scarlett Darius, Emma and Riley Lapierre. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Madalen MItchell, his parents, William and Catherine Mitchell, and several aunts and uncles.
Visiting hours will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 am on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave, Albany. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FASNY Firemen's Home, 125 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson, New York 12534 in Bill's memory.
