William G. Nelson Sr.

August 16, 1942 — September 19, 2024

Albany- William G. Nelson Sr., 82, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024.
William was the son of the late Claude and Mary (Frazier) Nelson.

A loving husband and father, he was committed to his faith, his family and making a better life for them.

William is predeceased by his wife of 60 years Mary E. (Shelton) Nelson; brothers Claude Nelson Jr., Carl Nelson, and sister Barbara Nelson.

He is survived by his son William G. Nelson Jr, (daughter-in-law) Lisa Nelson, daughter Tanya Early, (son-in-law) William Early, daughter Toni Nelson, daughter Terri Rappold 4 Grandchildren, 3 Great-Grandchildren and many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He also leaves in mourning his sister Carol Nelson of Albany, N.Y.

William received an Equivalency Diploma from the State University of New York in 1968. He obtained certification
as a Second Class Fireman in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1962. William was elected to be on the
Board of Directors for the Rensselaer Girls club in 1979 and received recognition from County Executives for his
role working to support the youth of the county. He built a career at IBM in Albany and worked as a Customer
Service Engineer there for 17 ½ years before retiring. He was a member of the Albany Church of Christ, and the
Faith and Love Fellowship Church in Rensselaer, NY. William’s passions were enjoying time with his family and
friends, studying the bible, and fishing. He became widely known in the area as a handyman, carpenter, electrician
and jack of all trades who loved to tinker with automotive and electronic gadgets and tools. He had a great sense of
humor, loved to laugh, tell jokes and have fun.
