Albany- William Nicol, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 24, 1925 in Port Chester, NY, he was the son of the late James Nicol and Helen Condie both of whom immigrated to the United States from Scotland. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a medic. Trained as a classical pianist, he was a field organist during army church services. Bill worked for Shell Oil Company for most of his life in several sales positions and lived for more than 30 years in Yorktown Heights, NY. He was a member of the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department for many years and held the department's secretarial position. He enjoyed golfing, travel and classical music. Bill is predeceased by a son, James "Jimmy" Nicol.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years June (McGinnis) Nicol. He leaves behind three children, Tom Nicol (Vicki) of Danbury, CT, Linda Pedicone (John) of Winter Springs, FL and Joan Scotti (Joe) of Slingerlands. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jenna and William Nicol, Robert and Alexandra Pedicone, and William, Michelina and Marissa Scotti, his sister Isabel Gordon of Phoenixville, PA, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill will be remembered by his wife and children as a man of the highest integrity and moral principle. He was a man who, while not demonstrative, never let his family doubt his strong love and absolute commitment to them. His immense presence and strength of love will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Kinderhook Memorial Cemetery, Kinderhook, NY. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes or the American Heart Association in memory of William Nicol.
