Castleton – William "Sonny" T. O'Keefe, 80, passed away on Sunday September 1st surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany William was the son of the late John and Vera O'Keefe.
William was employed by The Niagara Mohawk Power Company Gas Department for 42 years before retiring as Chief Gas Mechanic in 1991. William took great pride in his long time affiliation with Free Masons, and he was a three time Past Master of the former James Tenyck Lodge #831. He was also a member of; the Cyprus Temple of Shriners, the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157, and the Saratoga Eagles Club. He was also loved football especially The Buffalo Bills. William will be remembered for; being the life of the party, his love and devotion to his family, and always giving 110% in everything he did. In recent years William enjoyed spending time with his best friend and companion of 10 years, Frances Nicholson. They loved to travel together including trips to Cape Cod.
William is survived by his children; Beverly A. (Jerry) Solomon, Bruce (Jackie Foster) O'Keefe, Brian P. (Jackie) O'Keefe Sr. grandchildren; Eric W. Solomon, Jeffrey J. Solomon, Brian P. O'Keefe Jr., Bradley D. O'Keefe, Brenden A. O'Keefe, Brooke E. O'Keefe, and siblings; Jane (Joseph) Mara, Robert (Barbara) O'Keefe, and Richard (Diane) O'Keefe. William was predeceased by his wife Mildred, son William T. O'Keefe Jr., and sister Shirley (Bernard) Lanza.
Funeral services for William will be Friday September 6th at 10:30 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany. (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.) Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
