William R. Hewitt

January 19, 1928 — November 24, 2011

COLONIE – William R. Hewitt, 83, after a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with his eldest daughter and husband, departed this life to be with his late wife Ginnie.

Bill was born in Watervliet on January 19, 1928 to the late Clayton and Mary Powers Hewitt. He was the father of three daughters, Christine, Bethany and Lynn. Bill honorably served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was employed in management for 25 years with Macy's in Colonie. Bill was a member of the American Legion Zaloga Post #1520 and a 36 year member of the Colonie Elks #2192 where he had called bingo for many years. He enjoyed golf and even had a hole in one. In retirement, Bill worked for the Town of Colonie Golf Course, Siena College and drove limousines.

As his health declined and he was more confined to his home, he avidly watched the New York Yankees. He was lovingly cared for by his daughter Christine Spoth. Bill considered her husband Paul as his best friend. A special thank you is made to the VA Hospital for the dedicated care he received over the years. Bill cherished Dr. Roberta Flesh as the best physician he ever had. His home life was made all the better because of staff at Sheehy Manor. Aimee and Tom were always good to him. Their care and respect will be remembered gratefully by Bill's family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday morning at 10:00 at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Latham. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow the Mass in Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga National VA Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to Sheehy Manor, 8 Carondelet Drive, Watervliet, NY 12189.
