William R. Smith

GUILDERLAND – William R. Smith, 77, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 27, 2013 with his family by his side. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Donald and Dorothy Smith and nephew of the late Myra Fontaine. Bill lived in Guilderland for most of his life. He retired from Armory Garage in Albany after forty-six years of service. Bill was a member of the Guilderland Elks Lodge # 2480. He wintered in Florida with his wife RoseMary for twelve years. Bill was also an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed golfing.

He is the beloved husband of fifty-six years to RoseMary C. Smith. Bill is the devoted father of William (Patricia) Smith Jr., David Smith and Jeanne (Stephen) Orenstein. He is the cherished grandfather of Rachel and Jordan Orenstein and Christopher Smith. He is the loving brother of Suzanne Sinkevich, Cholly Smith and the late Donald, Raymond, and Robert Smith, Marcia Vanderbilt, Judy Blum and Cheryl Hood.


Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad, 200 Centre Lane, Albany, NY 12203 or the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of William R. Smith.
