Bob Ridgeway, 84, of Curry Road, formerly of East Campbell Road, died Tuesday, 6/27/2017.
Bob was born in Troy, NY, on October 18, 1932 to the late William R. Ridgeway, Sr. and Eva (Spiak) Ridgeway. He graduated from Sacred Heart School, Troy, in 1946 and graduated as a Second Lieutenant from LaSalle Institute, Troy, 1950. He attended Siena College for 1 ½ years before joining the U.S. Navy.
He served in the Navy from 1952 to 1957 aboard USS Gilbert Islands CVE-107, aboard USS Bennington CVA-20, and with VU-4 Squadron, Chincoteague, VA.
After Bob separated from the Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class, he worked with his father at Ridgeway's Shell Station as a mechanic from 1957 until 1965. From 1965 until 1981 he was Route Manager for Table Talk Pies, Inc. From 1981 until his retirement in 1994 he was a mechanic for the Department of Public Works for the City of Albany. From 1994 until 2008 he enjoyed his retirement. In 2008 he became bored and on a lark applied with Green Thumb Environmental and secured a part-time position as a courier.
Bob was an avid bowler for more than 50 years and became an avid golfer upon retiring in 1994. He was also a member of the William F. Wigand VFW Post 8444 since 1984 in Albany, NY holding the positions of Junior Vice-Commander, Senior Vice-Commander, Commander, and held the positions of Quartermaster and Treasurer for almost 25 years.
Bob is survived by his children Cynthia Dodd and her husband Kenneth, William Ridgeway III, Richard Ridgeway, Michael Ridgeway, Lynn Grant and her husband James, Valerie Ridgeway, Susan Carmen and her husband Ronald, and Thomas Ridgeway and his wife Charlene. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard Ridgeway and two sisters, Margaret (Peggy) Baldwin and Marilyn Ridgeway.
A memorial service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 343 New Karner Road, Colonie on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 3 pm. Calling hours will precede the service from 12 pm to 3 pm at the funeral home. Burial at convenience of the family.
