William S. Vojnar

May 15, 1922 — November 1, 2015

William S. Vojnar, 93, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Bill died from complications of a stroke he suffered earlier in the year.

Born on May 15, 1922 at the Rotterdam family home where his parents, the late William Vincent Vojnar and Sadie Pallack Vojnar lived and raised their family. He belonged to the farm bureau, and VFW in Rotterdam. He attended Draper Schools. He loved helping people, talking of old times with friends and his cat, Big Foot. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, board games and horseshoes during better times. He was a great conversationalist, always with an interesting story to tell.

A United States Army veteran, Bill served during WWII from 1942-1944, where he served as a meat cutter's apprentice. Before Bill entered the service he bought 33 acres of land at the young age of 17, where he later build a home to raise his children. Bill worked for several years for Pleasant Valley Meat Packing Company, and then started Vojnar Stock Farm where he raised and slaughtered stock, and custom meat cutting for most of his life. He worked for the town of Guilderland as a backhoe operator at the land fill. He also did odd jobs using his backhoe for various types of work.
To all who knew Bill he was an honest and caring man. He always had a smile on his face, a positive attitude, never complained about anything. He was also an extremely generous man, funny and witty. He would truly give you the shirt from his back and his very last dollar. He enjoyed helping everyone. Whenever you had a conversation with him, you felt the warmth and friendship. He will be greatly missed.

Bill is survived by his children; William W. (Dottie) Vojnar, of Esperence, Doris "Dorie" Vojnar, of Cohoes, Kathleen "Katy" (Don) Watford, of Garden City Bch., S.C., Randy Vojnar, Dan (Lonya) Vojnar of Guilderland, Audrey (Ron) Kearns of Guilderland, Shawn (Michelle) Vojnar of Albany, Bobby (Sara) Vojnar of Rexford; his eight cherished grandchildren, his six great-grandchildren, his brother, Rudy (Grace) Vojnar of Schenectady, Robert Vojnar of FL, his sister, Elizabeth Vojnar, of Schenectady, and several nieces nephews and great nieces.
He was predeceased in death by his wife Doris E. Vojnar , his son, Jack Scott Vojnar, and his sister; Emma Vojnar.

Special thanks to Audrey Kearns, and Dorie and Shawn Vojnar for their tireless efforts. And the exceptional care given by Ann Shave, Brenda Anselment, Theresa Rushford and the late Dr. Roberta Flesh and the Silver team at VA Stratton Veterans Hospital.
