SCHENECTADY – William Schorpp, 88, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at the Albany VA Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
William was born on October 28, 1918 in Yonkers, NY and was the son of the late Henry and Lena Hoffman Schorpp. He served in the US Army during WWII in Okinawa, Japan. He worked as a receiver for Price Chopper in Rotterdam for 45 years before retiring in 1980. He was a life member of the VFW Post #357 in Schenectady and the American Legion Post #1092 in Niskayuna. He was also a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, fishing and swimming and he was an avid Red Sox fan.
William is survived by his children, Kathleen E. (Norman) Johnson and Kenneth E. (Judy) Schorpp both of London, KY, Ann F. (William) Brennan and Deborah E. Schorpp both of Schenectady; step-daughters, Gaye C. and Delaney Hailey both of Schenectady; his loving companion, Josephine Milano of Rotterdam; his sister, Grace Garlardi and his brother, George Schorpp both of Yonkers, NY. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances H. Gallagher Schorpp and several brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be 12 Noon Tuesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 11 to 12.
