Albany – William Stekeur, 82, of Village of Colonie, died at the Stratton VA Medical Center on Saturday January 12, 2008. He was born in Schenectady, the son of the late William and Lillian (Thorne) Stekeur.
Bill worked as a Steam Fitter for General Electric in Schenectady. He retired November 1, 1985 after 38 years of service. Bill was a decorated veteran of the US Army, having served overseas in Italy and North Africa during WW II.
He was a past member of Colonie Village Fire Company, a member of Lishakill Reformed Church, an avid Stamp Collector and member of Village of Colonie Senior Center.
Bill is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Doris, his daughters; Cheryl (Tom) Cassidy, Linda (Patrick) Logan and Eileen (Sandy) Thompson, his grandchildren; Kristin (Bill) Schaefer, Danielle Logan, Christopher Thompson and Emily Thompson and great-grandson Collin Allen and his brother James Stekeur. He was predeceased by his two brothers; Robert and John Stekeur.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:00am at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be Tuesday 3:00 to 5:00pm at the funeral home. Interment at Memory's Garden Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Village of Colonie H.B.K.
