LOUDONVILLE – William F. Stevens, 85, of Loudonville, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2005. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a Colonie resident since 1952. Mr. Stevens was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1941. Bill worked as a payroll auditor with Hartford Insurance Co. for over thirty years before his retirement. He coached Colonie Little League during the mid 1950's and was a volunteer firefighter for the West Albany Fire Co. #1. Mr. Stevens was an avid golfer and bowler. Bill is the beloved husband of 54 years to Alma (Volk) Stevens. He is the devoted father of William J. Stevens and his wife, Barbara of Stuyvesant and Anne E. Bortle and her husband, Stephen Howatt of Schenectady. He is the cherished grandfather of Theresa Anne Bortle of Watervliet. Also surviving is his sister Mrs. James (Tillie) Boylan of Long Island and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill's family would like to extend a special thank you to the Gold Unit and the Memory Enhancement Unit of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center for all of the love and care given to him during his illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at New Comer- Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern NY, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY 12206-2083 or the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Ave. Extension, Albany, NY 12203 in memory of William F. Stevens.
