Albany- William E. Suggs, Sr., 78, entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2021. He was born on April 27, 1943 son of the late Lonnie and Betty (Rodgers) Suggs in Durham, NC.
He moved with his family to Albany, NY in 1945 and attended Philip Schuyler High School. Both he and his brother, the late Leroy Suggs, received many accolades for their performance in High School Football. They both went on to later coach Pop Warner Football. Bill was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving his country in Vietnam. He received a letter of Commendation for outstanding service during the TET Offensive. Bill was always very proud of his service and had many interesting stories from his time in the military. He retired as a supervisor from BASF after over 30 years of service. Bill was also a proud member of the Al Tarbari Temple No. 121 Masons. In 2000 he served as the Illustrious Potentate.
Bill was a devoted father and grandfather. He was always happy to pick personalized gifts for his family members and was always leaving a special gift on your doorstep. Bill loved to gift magazine subscriptions. You never knew what might be coming, Time or Consumer Reports. Bill loved history, especially learning more about the Civil War. He was a kind and thoughtful person and he will be dearly missed.
Bill is survived by children, Van Suggs, Donna Porterfield (Ken), William Suggs, Jr.; grandchildren, Amyrah, Malcolm, Kiel; siblings, Mary Mallory, Francine Dickson, sister-in-law, Linda Suggs; nieces and nephews, Douglas "Lonnie" Mallory, Lovonia Mallory, Cynthia Suggs, Aaron Suggs, Micah Suggs.
In addition to his brother, he was predeceased by his nephew, Guy Mallory.
Viewing hours will be held from 10-12am on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. A services will begin at 12pm.
