William H. Swartz Jr, 82, passed away in the early hours of Monday, April 15, 2024 at home with his loving family and loyal canine companion by his side.

William (Bill) was the son of the late William Swartz Sr. and Mildred (Houghtaling) Swartz. Bill was the devoted husband to the late Paula M. (Coe) Swartz, who was the love of his life. They were married for 51 years before her death.

Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and spending time with his family, especially his three granddaughters. He was a volunteer firefighter for 64 years. He began firefighting at age 18 with J.N. Ring Fire Company in Rensselaer, NY followed by over 40 years with Westmere Fire Department in Westmere, NY. During this time, he served as a firefighter, Lieutenant, District Commissioner, Business Officer and Lifetime Member. He was a skilled career Electrician, later retiring from the IBEW Local Union 236.

Bill is survived by his son, William H. (Jennifer) Swartz III of Slingerlands, NY and daughter, Kimberly (Thomas) Swartz Doyle of Burlington, VT and cherished granddaughters: Julianna R. Swartz, Isabella C. Swartz and Ella F. Doyle. Bill is also survived by his brother Henry (Winnie) Swartz and several nieces and nephews. Lastly, Bill is survived by his beloved canine companion of 12 years Velvet, who loved him as much as he loved her.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 at 10:00 am also at New Comer Funerals & Cremations.

Interment will follow the service at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland.
