William P. Wielt, Jr. 80, passed away, at home, on October 31st, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Born in Salem, NY on March 10th, 1938, he was the son of Beatrice and William Wielt, Sr.
Bill never did get around to retiring! He continued doing carpentry for 60 years with his brother Butchy and son Michael, they demonstrated their craftsmanship building many private homes, restoring historic homes in Schenectady's Stockade area, and perhaps, most notably the Cock n' Bull Restaurant , where he forged a lifelong friendship with Don Staber. They enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to Alaska and Montana. Bill enjoyed cutting and splitting wood, riding his Harley, working in the vegetable garden, reading, and helping anyone who needed anything. He could often be found on his tractor on the back 40. He felt a kinship with the Native American Culture. A lifelong member in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, his beloved Saturday Sabbath was the only day he allowed himself to rest. Along with his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Warren, Bucky, Raymond, Alvin, Donald and baby sister, Kathleen.
We are left to smile at the many memories, Sherry Garrett Wielt; daughter, Cindy W. Rucker; son, Michael Slade, and daughter-in-law, Trish Gabriel Wielt; grandson, Cole William Rucker; granddaughter, Tory Rucker; and great-grandson, Sterling. Four sisters; Arlene Quay, Carol Larned, Kay (Bob) Voehringer and Helen Turnbull; Brothers; Bob (Mary), Mickey and Butchy. Numerous nieces, nephews and their children; and special friends, John and Ingrid Frank, Evan and Sandy Laurie.
His smile and sense of humor will be sorely missed by any and all who knew him.
A celebration of a life well lived will be held at the Schenectady Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1413 Quackenbush Rd, Schenectady, NY 12306 on Sunday, November 18th at 1:00pm. Reception to follow.
