ALBANY – Willye "Billie" E. Tigner, 92, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2007 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Known as Billie, she was born on November 27, 1914 in Halifax, VA and was the daughter of the late Josh and Fannie Lacy Anderson.
Billie was a doer. She was a devoted member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church for over fifty years, where she enjoyed serving on the Usher Board. She was also a member of the Mystic Chapter #11 Order of the Eastern Star PNS.
Billie was self employed as a beautician for many years, and worked for the New York Telephone Company as well. All who knew her would agree she was a #1 homemaker, a charitable woman and friendly to all. Her absence will leave a lasting effect on everyone who knew her.
Billie is survived by her sister, Sadie M. Foskey of Albany; her son-in-law, John A. Carter of Newark, NJ; her granddaughters, Brenda J. (Dean E.) Rowlett of Albany and Karen Hardy-Cherry of Livermore, CA; 11 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Princess Flood and Luella Dozier and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Tigner, her daughter, Loretta Hardy, 11 siblings, and her grandson, Larry Hardy.
The family would like to thank St. Peter's Hospice Home Care and the Heart Program staff of Memorial Hospital for the loving care that she received.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 1 Morton Ave., Albany. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Willye "Billie" E.
