SLINGERLANDS – Winifred J. Burnett, born in Jefferson, NY on September 23, 1922, died peacefully in the care of hospice on Saturday, June 23, 2012. Winnie was predeceased by six brothers and a nephew. Although she resided for much of her life in the city of Albany, Schoharie County with its rolling hills and resilient people remained close to her heart.
Winnie proudly served as a WAVE in the Navy during World War II. She worked for the New York State Office of Audit & Control. Winnie leaves behind three nieces, their children, cousins and many, many devoted friends. Throughout her life in Albany, Winnie volunteered and participated in many civic organizations where she made lasting friendships. She will always be remembered for her dedication to such organizations as the Albany Senior Service Center, League of Women Voters, Narcolepsy Network, United Tenants of Albany and Bethany Reformed Church.
There will be a Memorial Service in remembrance of Winifred J. "Winnie" Burnett on Saturday, June 30th at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany Reformed Church, 760 New Scotland Avenue, Albany. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 in memory of Winifred J. Burnett.
