SARATOGA- Parrella, Yolanda Rosalia Porcelli, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25th, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY after a long and prosperous life surrounded by her loving family. Born in Flushing, Long Island, she was the daughter of the late Oranzo Porcelli and Pasqua Lepora. She had seven sisters, Tosca, Beatrice, Giaconda (Mary), Alicia, Ida, Lena and Jenny and two brothers, Joseph and Frank. She was raised in Long Island, worked at a U.S. Navy Yard as a welder, building ships during World War II, then married the late, Vincent F. Parrella, husband of 50 years, at the Church of St. Michael in Flushing, Long Island on April 9th, 1944. During the 4 years prior to her stay at Maplewood Manor nursing home, she resided with her daughter, Claudia Quintana, of Greenfield Center, NY. She leaves behind her six children, Alfred B. Parrella, (wife, Wanda) Cynthia B. Schueller, (husband, Kevin), Vincent F. Parrella, Jr. (wife, Nancy), Claudia A. Quintana (husband, Thomas), Lorraine A. Pelkey, (husband, Christopher) and David L. Parrella, (wife, Doreen), along with 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, her sister, Giaconda (Mary) Guardino and many nieces and nephews. Yolanda was best known for hosting many wonderful and memorable family gatherings for the holidays, featuring Italian Cuisine with a delightful "made from scratch" array of dishes from antipasto to Lasagna, pastas with meatballs, Braciole, Eggplant Parmigiana, pizza, Calzones, Calamari, Pasta Fagioli and traditional desserts, such as, Jeanettes cookies, Cannoli, cheesecake, fruitcake and pies. The impression she has made in so many of our lives will be forever cherished and she will be sadly missed. The family will be holding private services.
