COLONIE - Z. Inci Terry, Ph.D., 82, died on Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes.
Born in Istanbul, Turkey, she was the daughter of the late Sevket and Muecella Incikaya. She was a graduate of American College for Girls, Istanbul; State University of Iowa; and University of Oklahoma, with degrees in philosophy and psychology. She held teaching positions at Southern Connecticut State University, SUNY Oswego; University of Tulsa; and Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey.
She served as a Staff Clinical Psychologist at the Lyon Mental Hygiene Clinic, Whittier, CA; the Tulsa City-County Health Dept., Tulsa, OK; and the Rochester Psychiatric Center Children's and Adolescents' Units in Rochester, NY.
She also held a number of administrative positions, including that of Director of the Southwest Center for Gerontological Studies at the University of Oklahoma; and as Director of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Alcoholism Services for Orleans County, NY.
Inci also established three private practices, the first in Brockport, NY; the second in Hamden, CT; and the last in Latham, NY from which she retired in 2000.
Before moving to Latham, NY, from Hamden, CT, Inci participated in a variety of community activities and served on several boards and committees including the Board of Managers of the Hamden-New Haven YMCA where she was the Chairperson of the Child Care Committee; the Advisory Committee of the Hamden Regional Adult Day Care Center; and the Human Needs and Services Work Group, Plan for Our Future, Town of Hamden.
Inci is listed in Who's Who of American Woman. She is survived by her son, Dr. Deniz Terry; her daughter-in-law, Dawn; her two granddaughters, Lynn and Michelle; her brother, Kaya Incikaya. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Richard A. Terry.
Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society in memory of Dr. Z. Inci Terry.
