Albany- Zakaria Khalil Abdu passed away June 1, 2015, at the Hospice Inn St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. He was born in Luxor, Egypt on January 15, 1938. In 1979 Zakaria and his wife Margaret along with their two sons, Hosam and Wael; immigrated to the United States. They settled in Albany, NY where they have remained for the last 36 years. Zakaria was very active in his Church, St. Mary and St. George Coptic Orthodox Church of Albany, NY. For 15 years Zakaria spent his days at the Gullo Company before moving on to work for the U.S. Department of Justice. He retired from the U.S. Department of Justice in 2010. In his retirement Zakaria found more time to devote to his long time hobby of collecting and repairing antique hand wound clocks.
He is survived by his wife Margaret (Masoud) Abdu of 48 years and his sons; Hosam Abdu (Tammie) of Livonia, MI, and Wael (Terryann) of Albany, NY. Zakaria is also survived by his grandsons, Christian, Javian and Rylan.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Mary & St. George Coptic Church in memory of Zakaria Khalil Abdu.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 4 2015 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at New Comer Funeral Home in Colonie. A service will take place at St. Mary & St. George Coptic Church, 820 Madison Ave, Albany, NY 12205 at 10:00am. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.
After the burial everyone is welcomed back to St. Mary & St. George Coptic Church for a luncheon.
