ALBANY – Zelda Waylett Colvin, 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Born in Stony Creek, CT she was the daughter of the late William and Hazel (Adams) Waylett. She moved to Albany in 1945. Zelda worked for New York Telephone Company before becoming a homemaker. She was an active member of The First Congregational Church, UCC Albany for sixty-five years where she served as financial secretary and church historian. Zelda enjoyed playing the piano and organ, oil painting, crafts and holiday celebrations with her family. She loved camping trips and traveling. She worked as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and Child's Hospital. Zelda is the beloved wife of Robert E. Colvin whom she married in 1947. She is the devoted mother of Patricia Washburn, Barry (Brenda) Colvin and Susan (Geno) Williams. She is the cherished grandmother of Stephanie W., Amy, Michele, Barry Jr., Stephanie L. and Brian. Also surviving are seventeen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, her brother, Bob Waylett and many nieces and nephews. Zelda was predeceased by her grandson Richard Tyler Colvin; her sisters, Helen Smith, Marie Scanlon, Anna Shackford and Miriam Oliver and her brother; Wayne Waylett.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Sunday, August 14th at 3:00 p.m. at The First Congregational Church in Albany. A reception will follow in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Organ and Piano Repair Fund, First Congregational Church, 405 Quail Street, Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Zelda W. Colvin.
