ALBANY – Alphonse “Bob” Polk passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Bob was the second born to the late Willard Joseph and Virginia Segura Polk on January 24, 1943 in Lafayette, LA. He was a native of New Iberia, LA and a resident of Albany, NY for over fifty years. Bob began his employment in 1963 with DAKA Food Service. He worked at the State Campus and Empire State Plaza. At the time of his retirement in 2006 due to health issues, he was an employee of Sodexo Food Service where he was head chef. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, camping and was an avid fisherman.


Bob was united in marriage to Carolyn “Kay” Williams. He leaves to mourn his wife Kay and four children, Richard, Valerie and Jacqueline all of Albany, NY and Adam of Boston, MA; six grandchildren, Raliek Alphonse, Myla Faith, Raliekia Shamarra, Elijah Martin, Chantel Kierra and Ava Jade; five siblings, Sara Polk-Doucette of Rochester, NY, Beverly Jean Polk of New Liberia, LA, Ulysses (Eva) Polk of Shreveport, LA, Ralph (Denise)Polk of Albany, NY and Patricia (Joseph) Ledet of Lafayette, LA. Missing him dearly is his cousin, Moses (Shirley) Kelly; three nephews, Malik, Terrance and Daniel Polk; friend, Eddie Lewis; two God-daughters, Robin Johnson and Jade Gibson and his loving mother-in-law, Dorothy Williams. Also missing him are many nieces, nephews and other relatives and caring friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Annette Polk.


A Home-going service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 26 Wilson Ave., Albany, NY 12205. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Mount Zion Baptist Church #1, Loreauville, LA. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
