Albany – Irene Gennets Gigliello, 89, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 16 at Memorial Hospital with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Luzerne, PA on February 15, 1925 to the late Ann Beretsky Gennets and Michael Gennets. Irene was a Registered Nurse and devoted many years caring for others until her retirement in 1997. She was a two time breast cancer survivor and an inspiration to many.

Irene married Gilbert Gigliello on May 20, 1960 and enjoyed 38 years of marriage until his passing in 1998.

Survivors include her son, John and his wife Rose; two grandchildren, Julianna and Maria; cousins Jean and Ray Betts and their children, Gina, Jennifer and Brad (Fahsel) and their children, Michael (Jessica) and their children. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to all of the staff at the Loudonville Adult Home and the Westmere Home for the loving care they gave Irene for past 15 years. Special thanks also to the ER staff and the 6th floor staff at Memorial Hospital, as well as the Community Hospice, who provided Irene with dignity and comfort in her final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Newcomer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on Tuesday, April 22nd from 4 – 7. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd at 10a.m. at St. Mary’s Chapel at Siena College.

In lieu of flowers, contributions, in Irene’s name, may be made to any of the following charities: The Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rennslaer, NY 12144; Northeastern New York, Affiliate of Susan G.
